“I felt honoured to be a part of their education project, to inspire students to take themselves out of their hometowns and experience different cultures and diversity.”

“VTC never fails to inspire me to learn new things. As a member going for the second year, I felt more prepared to teach classes, especially with all my students being older than me this year. As I walked into Wuchuan Middle School for the first time, I felt intimidated by the large buildings and immense amount of students rushing from class to class. During our orientation of the school, we walked past a soccer field, a garden, and a calendar which showed how many days of classes were left. It wasn’t long until I realized that we, in a way, were all the same. Watching the energy and enthusiasm of the students reminded me of my own community. Over the week I stayed at the high school, I learned many things about their school, their culture, and myself. In Wuchuan county, their largest infrastructure is their school. It just demonstrates how much dedication and care they put into education. I felt honoured to be a part of their education project, to inspire students to take themselves out of their hometowns and experience different cultures and diversity.

Dear students,

In the short week we’ve had together, I have never learned so much about a place or myself. I hope that you know I took away even more than I intended to bring. I really hope that I have achieved my goal, which was to inspire and lift the spirits in you to work hard. Looking at the future, I really wish you will take my advice and push through this boundless and wearing marathon we call life, one stride at a time.” -Ethan, VTC2018
